Group Discussion Meetings: Vancouver, BC, Canada

Join us once a month for lively talk about the work ethic, alternatives to traditional employment, simple living, sharing of practical tips, and more!

UPDATE (APRIL 2004): WE ARE NO LONGER HOSTING IN-PERSON DISCUSSION MEETINGS. HOWEVER, WE'RE LEAVING THIS PAGE ONLINE FOR REFERENCE PURPOSES.

We've had many fun activities and lots of fascinating talk at our meetings, including coffeeshop gatherings, outings such as attending a lecture by Derrick Jensen, and much more.

More examples of activities we've had in the past: visiting writers and speakers, reading nights (where each participant reads a paragraph or two from a book on work, jobs, the economy, and so forth, and the group then discusses the ideas in the book), and potlucks/social nights. We also have a reading library (containing most of the books we have on our recommendations page) which will soon be available for research or leisurely perusal by appointment.

We generally keep the meetings limited to ten people, since they're held at private homes and small coffee shops. You are welcome to attend as a "drop-in" and just listen if you wish. There is no charge to attend our meetings, no commitment to attend further meetings necessary, and no requirements to attend except a sincere interest in the subject.

Please contact us if you're in or near the Vancouver, BC area, or are planning to visit, and would like to be notified about the meetings.

QUOTES:

"The work ethic is the catch-22 of capitalism: our self esteem and the opinion others hold of us is measured almost entirely by what we do rather than what we are."
- Barry Jones

"In terms of unearned income, getting something for nothing, dependency, etc., welfare is nothing compared to what stockholders and landowners receive, just for having ancestors who were pirates or bullies." - Brian Dean,
